December in Belize
From the beginning of the December the Christmas spirit starts to fill the air around the country of Belize. With approximately 90% of the population being Christians all planning and preparation for the family intensify climaxing on the 25th of December. Like many other countries around the world, it’s the biggest holiday of the year.
The children become excited as they look forward to the gifts that they will be receiving. The parents make plans to purchase new house hold items and food and the drinks for the entire family and friends who may stop by to visit on Christmas day. It’s a festive time of year and we all go the extra mile to celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ.
The month also draws many visitors to the country as the tourism season spikes. It’s the ideal time to come to Belize as the rain subside and we exit the rainy season.
If you have extra time and you find yourself in the Belize City or San Pedro Ambergris Caye, you could enjoy the very popular Christmas parade that goes through the street with all the amenities and paraphernalia of the holidays.
If you will be in southern Belize look out for the Jancunu dancers in their costumes with their drums moving around entertaining the residents of the Garifuna communities. A wonderful cultural exhibition that adds a historical context to our holiday season.
