2024 Mango Festival in Hopkins Village
June marks the beginning of the rainy season here in Belize. This year we could not wait for the return of the rain as the last two months served us with some scorching hot temperatures that caused significant brush and forest fire all over the country.
We are all relieved now that the rain is here; as not only the people but also the flora and fauna of our natural environment was under severe stress levels due to the extremely warm weather. This month is also the second month of the slow season, which last 6 months, in the tourism industry. The focus now is on attracting the Belizean traveler to see and enjoy more of the country.
A very popular event that occurs this month is the Mango Festival held in the beautiful coastal Garifuna village of Hopkins in southern Belize. The mango, a very popular tropical fruit grows in abundance all over the country and at this festival so many of its by- products are put on display. This event is well attended.
Cultural Music Segment of Mango Festival
This Garifuna Village is also known for producing beautiful Garifuna music from some of the biggest Belizean Garifuna artist of the country. Their music along with the artist themselves were present and performing. The festival is a wonderful event that you could look forward to attending annually this time of year. An extraordinary combination of the amazing mango fruit in all its flavors align with the intriguing Garifuna culture and its music. It’s a great time to visit Belize as you get to enjoy all these spectacular family events that attracts both the locals and visitors alike.
